Reversible contraception

Project Overview

Develop a reversible contraceptive method so a woman can turn on or turn off her fertility. It could use 2 implantable valves that will open when the woman elects to be fertile and close when the woman elects to be infertile. The valves could be implanted in both Fallopian tubes to permit the eggs to pass or block the eggs from passing. The woman or clinic could use an external controller device to open or close the valves. It is likely that the woman would elect the use of the controller only at intervals greater than one year.

The Fallopian tubes could be cut. Each end could slip over a nipple formed of porous Dacron to encourage biocompatible tissue ingrowth and fastened with surgical glue. Then a smooth surfaced, egg-shaped cap could enclose all to be gentle to surrounding tissues and withstand the contractions during childbirth.
