Project Overview

Intraventricular drain (IVD) systems are closed systems that are hung with string from a pole. The IVD system container must be at a constant distance from the ventricles of the patient in order to function properly. Keeping IVD containers at a constant level relative to patient ventricles is time-consuming for nurses and does not allow for precise treatment. Our goal is to design a device that will raise or lower the IVD container carriage a certain distance that depends on how the patient moves with respect to the carriage. This device must also include safety features for when the patient moves such that sudden changes in carriage distance are measured. The safety feature must include but is not limited to automatically stopping flow of the drainage system.
