Project Overview

Whole body vibration has had promising results when used as a type of exercise to strengthen muscle function, balance and bone strength among other things. One issue of particular interest with this form of therapy is that vibration can be transmitted to other parts of the body where it can cause damage to soft tissues and sensitive organs especially in the spine and head. Therefore, it is important to monitor the transmission of the vibrations and to determine safe positions for the therapy to be performed in to minimize the chance of injury. Our group will attempt to develop a system to monitor vibration transmission and joint angles and positioning to help therapists perform this exercise safely on their patients.
