Project Overview

In order to complete research on aortic heart valves, Kristin Master’s lab requires a way to hold valve leaflets in place in media and apply equal tensions to the leaflets. Currently, her lab uses a bioreactor that can hold eight leaflets, with 7mL of media per leaflet. However, they would like to complete work on much smaller leaflets, and on more of these smaller leaflets at a time. They would like a new reactor that can hold twelve or more leaflets simultaneously, in one mL of media per leaflet, and that is consistent in how it positions the leaflets in each well. In addition to this, a cutter tool for the tissues is needed to standardize tissue sizes to 0.5 cm by 0.5 cm.
