Project Overview

We are interested in the development of a wearable device that captures natural acceleration and deceleration profiles of a runner during a variety of running exercises (interval training, long run, recovery run, etc.). The resulting product must collect, process, and present the data that has been recorded, and the device should be functional for both non-motorized treadmill running and overground training. Literature is very limited on the topic currently, as most studies rely on the linear acceleration and deceleration profiles of a treadmill to investigate running or walk-to-run transitions. The device will allow Johnson Health Tech North America to capture relevant running data and inform future product development. Students who partake in the project will have the opportunity to visit JHTNA's facilities in Cottage Grove and potentially conduct a biomechanical study during the spring semester with IRB approval.
