Project Overview

Our client, Dr. Sana M. Salih, has requested that we design and construct an endo-pouch or drug delivery system that will be used for targeted delivery of dexrazoxane to the ovaries in cancer patients.

The goal of this project is to create a product that would be able to distribute medicine prior to chemotherapy that reaches all surfaces of the ovary. This product would be used to prevent damage to the ovary during chemotherapy. Ideally, this product would be inserted into the abdominal cavity prior to chemotherapy and surround the ovary, where it will diffuse the drug dexrazoxane in the ovary’s surface. This drug has been shown to prevent DNA damage caused by doxorubicin chemotherapy, so ideally the bag will be implanted before any chemotherapy takes place, and simply be filled with dexrazoxane through a port before each round of chemo. This product will need to be made out of a compatible biomaterial that can last within the body for 6-8 months.

Please see the uploaded Product Design Specification (PDS) file for further information and design requirements.
