Project Overview

In both reconstructive and vascular surgery, frequent monitoring of vessel patency/sufficiency from the surface of the skin is a critical practice that guides major clinical/surgical decisions. This is typically accomplished via pencil doppler every 30-120 minutes depending on the amount of time since surgery and requires the application of gel and disruption of the patient each time one wishes to evaluate. This project would seek to expand on the device already created by a previous BME design team. The previous design was a self-adhesive capsule that could be placed on the patient's skin for multiple days both marking the vessel under evaluation and holding the ultrasound gel for quick and easy assessment. The team should expand on this idea by creating a device that can be worn by the patient throughout their stay, which allows for more convenient and timely monitoring of the vessels.
