MRI Noise Attenuating Headphones

The new 3-Tesla MRI machine magnets are very noisy and many health care providers are having difficulty using their existing headphones to sufficiently minimize the noise for personnel working in close proximity to these machines. To overcome this problem, our client’s current solution is to wear expanding in-ear-canal earplugs in addition to a headset. However, even this two-tier system still does not minimize noise sufficiently and is also uncomfortable. The team’s goal is to design and then fabricate headphones that can act alone to effectively minimize noise while not interfering with the MRI scanner.
