The effects of therapeutic vibrations are not yet known on patients with cognitive impairments. This project aims to develop software on board the 2nd generation VibeTech One™ semi-recumbent therapeutic vibration rehabilitation system to establish what the best treatment protocol for a single patient with cognitive impairments is to improve their lower extremity physical function, reduce levels of pain and anxiety they may be experiencing, and improve their quality of life. Once deemed successful, the software will be generalized and have a broader impact in leading to the establishment of new international standards surrounding the use of therapeutic vibration for patients in need. Because exercise is inherently difficult for patients with cognitive impairments, this project also involves the development of one or more rehabilitation games for the VibeTech One™ therapeutic vibration rehabilitation system based on the needs of a single patient with cognitive impairments, with the ultimate goals of: (1) a high level of engagement, (2) improvements in lower extremity physical function, and (3) a reduction in agitation after treatment.
