Flexible to rigid long bone intramedullary nail
This project has been secured to protect intellectual property.
Login for More InformationThe goal of this project is to create an intramedullary nail with a degree of flexibility, allowing surgeons to position the nail more effectively upon implantation.
Project Overview
An intramedullary nail is the current best solution to long bone fracture. The current nail is a long, rigid rod fixed in the medullary canal of the fractured long bone, often held in place by screws. However, the rigid nature can make installation of the nail difficult as insertion can only be done proximally. The team has been tasked to create a nail that can be flexible during insertion and become rigid in place to ensure adequate stabilization of the fracture.
