The knee biomechanics monitoring system will support clinicians in optimizing post-operative care for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Project Overview

Over 700,000 total knee arthroplasties (TKA) are completed in the US each year. With a surgery of this magnitude, long-term post-operative care is required. This causes a strain on the healthcare system and discourages patients from attending frequent in-person clinic visits due to logistical burdens. A non-invasive, at-home monitoring device of the knee would provide better detailed recovery metrics, revolutionizing postoperative care. This team will design a knee sleeve that patients can wear at home, fitted with monitoring equipment such as strain gauges.
