Diaper partition - Separating stool from other stuff

Login for More InformationDevelop a diaper for accurate gastrointestinal fluid losses measurement by separating stool and urine.
Project Overview
Acute gastroenteritis with diarrheal illness is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five, with treatment primarily relying on supportive fluid resuscitation. In severe cases, an accurate quantification of stool output is essential for providing appropriate fluid supplementation. However, current practices are hindered by the reliance on diapers, where urine and stool are combined. This combination can lead to overestimation of stool loss, increasing the risk of excessive fluid administration to children under 5. A solution is needed to properly separate urine from stool in diapers, particularly in hospitalized young children. A diaper with separate compartments for urine and stool can ensure accurate monitoring of gastrointestinal fluid losses. This device must be safe, comfortable, and durable for the children’s activity level, while also being affordable, as the disease is most prevalent in low and middle-income countries.
