Project Overview
The AccuGyd trajectory system for neurosurgery is limited by the amount of weight that can be applied into a device that is affixed to the skull. Due to the nature of the surgery, ferrous metals and powered tools are unsafe and a manual hand drill must be used. The vibrational translational motion caused by the movement of the hand drill can lead to skiving on the skull, altering the trajectory of the system. To diminish the unwanted movement and vibration, a drill clamping system is needed to attain trajectory accuracy within 1 mm at 10 cm depth. This system should provide the hand drill with stability, a higher degree of accuracy, and improved consistency drilling into the skull.
