Project Overview
The Microfluidic Device for a Nanofabrication Apparatus Team was tasked by client Dr. Campagnola to create a device that will be used for the introduction and collection of protein solution. Currently, the solution is being hand-pipetted into a chamber, allowing for a laser to be used in conjuction with a microscope to create ECM scaffolding used in research on tissue regeneration. However, this process is highly inefficient and wasteful. Thus the goal of this project is to work in collaboration with client Dr. Campagnola, advisor Dr. Hai, and others in order to improve and automate said process. At minimum, the device will include a pump and controller linked with LabVIEW, tubing, a sealed microfluidic chamber, a filter, and capsules. The pump will push the protein solutions out of capsules and through tubing using the controller, and into the microfluidic chamber. There, the scaffolds will be created in the same fashion as it has been in the past. Next, the pump will push the fluid out of the chamber and through a filter where particulates will be removed, and then into a collection capsule for re-use.
