Educational model to illustrate HIV infection cycle
Project Overview
HIV is a virus that progressively leads to the development of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a deadly condition in which the immune system collapses and fails to protect against infection. Our client, Marge Sutinen of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, works to educate students on the permanent effects of HIV in her Contemporary Issues in HIV/AIDS Prevention course. She has asked our team to develop a three dimensional teaching tool that captivates the attention of a class of undergraduates by visually depicting the irreversibility of HIV infection and what makes HIV more deadly than a normal virus. Currently there is no appropriate model that can be used to take this complex process and simplify it in such a way that the concept can be grasped by students with minimal biological knowledge.
