Orthopedic surgeries tend to carry higher risk for older adults. This information carries more impact when coupled with the fact that the occurrence of degenerative joint disease increases with age. Currently explored pain relief methods includes short terms solution such as medications, steroid injections, and hyaluronic acid injections. When longer term pain relief solutions are not explored, quality of life is at risk. The goal is to design a durable, inexpensive, lightweight, easily used knee brace to address the pain associated with such disease when surgery cannot be pursued.
