Login for More InformationOur goal is to create a small needle driver that will quickly complete sutures, which will allow for the surgeon to spend less time on sutures and more time on other tasks.
Project Overview
One of the most time-consuming tasks during surgery isn't necessarily the surgery itself it is the sutures. At this moment, the current method for suturing requires attaching the driver to the needle, rotating through the tissue, releasing the needle, capturing the needle, and adjusting the needle orientation. This method keeps surgeons tied down and prevents them from moving onto other patients.
Our client Dr. Nick Von Bergen has tasked us with creating a small needle driver that will perform the same tasks as a surgeon but in a fraction of the time. This device would allow for surgeons to spend much less time suturing and in turn, would allow them to see more patients.
