We hope to cheaply recreate an airway mannequin with varying degrees of difficulty that reflects real-life situations so that trainees can gain more valuable, realistic experiences for the field

Project Overview

The practice of intubation is a necessary skill for many healthcare providers, however, developing expertise requires extensive training that can be costly due to the expense of airway mannequins currently on the market. Additionally, available mannequins are difficult to continuously practice on because they are very inconvenient to rearrange. Mannequins can become out of touch with how real airways behave as they are designed to promote success rather than account for varying human anatomy. In a real human, it is difficult to determine whether the intubation will be carried out successfully or not, thus airway mannequins should mimic that obstacle. In order to diversify airway mannequins utilized by health professionals to master the task of intubation, a modular mannequin with removable airway cartridges must be created to allow for practice on varying respiratory tracts to be possible, without requiring replacement of entire mannequins. The modular mannequin should allow for quick assembly and replaceable valves that will maintain ease of use for the user.
