An assistive and compatible placement security device to accurately deploy a cardiological stent into the patent ductus arteriosus during neonatal surgery.

Project Overview

Currently, placement of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) stent is difficult to accurately place during surgery with the assistance of 2D angiography and echocardiography imaging that can fail to adequately depict complex and minute anatomy of neonatal patients. This team aims to create a PDA stent placement device to work in tandem with the current methods of visualization to ensure doctors are able to consistently and accurately place a PDA stent with confidence in its anatomical location. This 3D placement device will use natural anatomical branching of the arteries to ensure the stent is placed in the correct location. Further, this device will be designed to be compatible with the current stents, guidewires, catheters, and balloons being used.
