The team has been tasked with creating an AI model that will be able to evaluate and effectively diagnose melanoma based on an image provided.

Project Overview

Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, is one of the most common cancers diagnosed and treated around the world. One of the primary ways in which this cancer can be effectively treated is through early detection. As of recently, the incidence of this specific cancer has been on the rise, and with the bottleneck on primary care in the dermatology field, it is very difficult to ensure early detection for patients. In order to ease the burden on primary care physicians, an AI model with biomedical relevance is required. This AI model should be able to categorize a skin lesion into one of three categories, benign/not a problem, continue to monitor or biopsy. Additionally, a patient should be able to input symptoms they may have had to better inform the AI on how to diagnose the skin lesion. As a result, patients would be able to quickly receive a diagnosis that would inform them on the level of care to seek, if any.
