Project Overview
This project aims to design a low-cost stabilization device to secure the distal perfusion catheter-to-VA ECMO circuit connection against axial pull and rotational loosening, simultaneously. This could allow for continuous, uninterrupted limb perfusion and reduced risk during intensive care workflows. Traditional venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) circuits expose this critical near-patient junction to routine movement, transport, and clinical procedures, which can cause potentially harmful loosening or accidental disconnection. This project proposes a securement stabilizer that locks the junction without compressing the tubing lumen. This innovation could eliminate high consequence line disconnections, prevent severe patient blood loss, and preserve clinical visibility and access in intensive care and transport settings.
