Develop a realistic brain surrogate that allows steering of genetic treatment with ultrasound

Project Overview

Targeted gene therapy within the brain is making great progress in saving individuals suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, but the technology's development is being hampered by a lack of access to adequate testing models. This project aims to create a model that is accurate to the brain so that scientists can develop post-catheter targeting sequences in order to test gene treatments that affect a more generalized area of the brain, as current catheters can deliver into the brain through surgically added holes in the skull in a localized area, but the treatment struggles to reach wider across the organ. This will require the model to have accurate acoustic and physical properties to the brain, without neurological/electrical considerations.
