Project Overview
Extended bicycle riding can cause pain and discomfort in the sit-bone area because of prolonged and concentrated pressure, especially for older users who have less cushioning tissue. Current bicycle seats can help with pressure distribution and cushioning, but they do not actively address discomfort once it develops during a ride. Therefore, there is a need for a bicycle seat that can provide controlled massage to help reduce pressure related discomfort while maintaining the comfort, safety, and functionality of a typical bicycle seat. The design should integrate the massage mechanism and battery into the seat, support users up to 300 pounds, and operate reliably in outdoor environments. The design should also minimize unwanted pressure and vibrations while remaining durable and comfortable during extended use. The final prototype must be developed within a budget of approximately $100.
