Develop a device that incrementally increases pressure to stop/control hemorrhaging during Central Line Catheter insertion

Design Award

  • Design Excellence Award Honorable Mention

Project Overview

Patients who take anticoagulants to prevent blood clots face a significant threat of bleeding out from any open wound. When these patients receive a Central Venous Catheter (CVC) to receive nutrients or undergo dialysis, there is a risk of bleeding out around the catheter. Our objective is to design a device that is placed around the base of the catheter that will incrementally increase pressure applied to the area of CVC insertion.
