Microfluidic device for testing blood parameters of sickled blood to predict the occurrence of Vaso-occlusive Crises.

Project Overview

Sickle cell disease can cause painful and damaging blockage of blood pathways, and lead to frequent hospitalizations. The desired device is meant to function as an at-home test for patients diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease to monitor the risk of Vaso-occlusive Crises. This will allow the patient the ability to self monitor their condition and receive medical care before crises occur. For this semester, the device will test at least one blood parameter differential between healthy and sickled blood to determine VOC risk.
