Project Overview

High dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy and intratumoral injection are two separate cancer treatment options available today. Brachytherapy uses radiation to kill cancer cells and intratumoral injection utilizes the body’s immune system to fight off cancer. The study has shown that the combination of both methods produces a more effective result than individual treatment. Currently, no device exists to combine HDR brachytherapy and intratumoral immunotherapy. This project aims to design a multifunctional catheter which should allow practitioners to conduct both in one procedure with a single insertion. The device should provide a more efficient, affordable, and effective treatment for cancer patients.
