This project seeks to create a disposable, ergonomic, and dual-purpose surgical marking pen for cleft lip repair that can accurately create both the non-permanent and permanent markings required for the surgery.

Project Overview

The task at hand entails creating a high fidelity surgical marking pen for cleft lip repair that will be able to create temporary and permanent markings for cleft lip and palate surgeries. Cleft lip and palate surgeries require sub-millimeter precision. Existing products do not have long lasting ink or the precision required for these markings. The design goal is to create a disposable and inexpensive surgical pen that has both a temporary and more permanent tattoo feature, which can be used to finely mark necessary anatomical landmarks for cleft lip and palate surgeries. The design must contain ink that can be metabolized by the body and must have a safe and easy application of the markings.
