Project Overview
Surgeons are often required to spend multiple hours in the operating room while performing procedures. During this extended period of time, many surgeons adopt postures that are not ergonomically favorable. Over the course of a surgeon's career, the accumulation of time spent in these positions may result in injuries. Our client, Dr. Hau Le, is a surgeon at the UW Hospital. He is interested in the creation of a device that can monitor the effects of a surgeon's posture on their upper extremities (including but not limited to the head, neck, back, and shoulders). Our goal is to develop a device that surgeons can wear while operating that is able to detect unfavorable ergonomics in the upper body.
