Combine stethoscope (attach a speaker) and ultrasound probe for comprehensive lung examination

Project Overview

The stethoscope has horrific sensitivity for acute pulmonary conditions. Lung ultrasound use is expanding and remarkably sensitive and specific for many etiologies of respiratory distress. Nonetheless, basic conditions such as asthma are missed by lung ultrasound while captured easily by a stethoscope.

We propose the creation of a stethoscope that is attached to the US probe for real-time auscultation + ultrasonography. The stethoscope needs to be probe shaped with a small surface region, and attached to a speaker (instead of bi-aural headphones) for ease of use and education. It should have a click-able "on/off" so that it isn't as noisy while moving the probe around.
